The supposed ability to move objects at a distance by mental power or other nonphysical means.

The possibility of humans developing telekinesis or otherwise known as Psychokinesis (PK)was discovered in 2011 in the Republic of Azerbaijan by cognitive scientist Imran Ismailov. Shortly after this discovery human beings where born with the power. Fast forward a thousand years and the entire human population now had the ability.

But during that time war and chaos plagued the Earth, dwindling the human numbers down to a small percentile of what it once was. So those with the technology and knowledge to help took action in the hope of preventing humans from wiping themselves out completely.

The power of PK in of itself can only be used if the user has a clear idea of what he wants to do, otherwise known as visualization. But it was reported that individuals with PK was actually constantly leaking energy. This energy was often times focused outside the town by making the children fear the world beyond the barrier. How does this leaked energy form? Because subconscious also has a strong effect on their powers, often forming visualizations on it's own and activating the effect. Usually the leaked power is a minute amount which would only cause a real effect to the surrounding world on a long term and if produced by a number of individuals. But if someone is found to constantly be leaking energy and on a massive amount, or they stay beyond the barrier for too long they will begin to mutate or even die.

The range in which they can use their powers depends on the extent of their knowledge and natural ability. Satoru is a very powerful pk user with the capability of changing the surface of areas to a precise scale. He also used his power in order to control the bodies of the dead and make a large pond boil within minutes.

One child with PK could take out civilizations.

And with this in mind that technologically superior clan decided to put some limits on their abilities.

Two mechanisms where inserted into the human genome. First, as with wolves, an aversion to hurting one’s own species. Second, a mechanism known as the “death of shame.”: First the brain recognizes that it is about to attack someone who is also human. This recognition unconsciously activates the offender’s PK to inhibit liver and parathyroid functions. This results in warning symptoms such as unease, heart palpitation, and sweating. These reactions can be further amplified through education, motivation, and suggestion.(done at the same time as the sealing by the priests) At this stage, most will cease their attacks, but if they try to continue, hypocalcemia will lead to suffocation by tetany, or a dramatic increase in potassium levels will lead to cardiac arrest.

And in order to keep them from becoming overwhelmed and volatile:

Species of mammal known as the bonobo: There is rarely any conflict amongst bonobos. When stress or conflict arises, bonobos resolve it through sexual contact. This sexual contact occurs not only between mature males and females, but also between immature bonobos and those of the same sex. Necessity dictated that humans quickly become a “society of Love” like the bonobos.

But their are two diseases which can dilute the effect of the Death of Shame, or even erase it completely. These diseases are known as " Hashimoto-Applebaum Syndrome " Or Karmic Demons and " Larman-Krogeus Syndrome " or Fox In the Henhouse Syndrome (Ogres). With Hashimoto-Applebaum Syndrome the patient is unable to stop their power from leaking and it over flows completely, effecting everything surrounding the person in a drastic way and even killing. With Larman-Krogeus Syndrome the patient first shows signs of violent thinking and then eventually just snap and kill kill kill until they're put down. Their are two theories of why the Ogre feels a need to kill. One states that they are actually overly paranoid and believe everyone is out to get them so they kill them first. The other states that the disease itself injects the infected with endorphin's that works like a drug, they kill because it's the only way to get their fix.

If Satoru was to catch one or the other of these diseases it would be Larman-Krogeus Syndrome.

He is very intelligent due to the fact that their society stresses education and practice a lot, and he's also seen and reported to have the most Stamina of most PK users.

Ability to recall and judge directions easily. Saki even refers to him as a living GPS, if he's been to a place he can find his way back there with ease.
